The reclaimed territories are a unique phenomenon for our country, which emerged at the same time as the foundation of St. Petersburg. In the 18th century, Peter the Great built his city on the water - on a marshy area in the Neva delta - by "filling up" and reinforcing large areas of land. In the middle of the 20th century, thanks to the development of reclamation technology, certain areas of the city grew considerably. At the beginning of the 21st century, the reclamation of territories resumed: on Vasilievsky Island, "out of the foam of the sea" a sandy embankment with a marine terminal and residential neighbourhoods emerged. It is very interesting to see how the new reclaimed territory is changing and developing, which many people were sceptical and even wary of, as something shaky and quicksand.
